How can we help?
Answers to the usual questions. If yours isn't here, write to us; a person reads every email.
How do I start a round?
Tap Start a round, find your course, add your playing partners, and tee off. The course's par, yardage and handicap fill in for every hole.
My course isn't found.
Try a shorter search, such as the club's name without “Golf Club”, or search near you. If it still isn't there, enter the course by hand: you only need the par for each hole, and you can add yardages from the tee sign as you play.
The par or yardage on a hole is wrong.
Courses change. Open the course and edit it; your changes are kept on your phone only. If the club's card itself is wrong in Short Pencil, tell us the course and we'll have it read again.
How does the card get emailed?
Tap Email scorecard on any finished card to send it from your own mail app. Or turn on “Email me every finished card” in Settings: after you confirm your address with a six-digit code, every card you sign is emailed to you automatically.
I didn't get my code or my card.
Check your spam or promotions folder for an email from cards@shortpencilcards.com. With no signal on the course, cards wait on your phone and send as soon as you're back online. The card's screen says when it's been emailed.
Do I need signal on the course?
No. Scoring works anywhere. Finding a course needs a connection, so it's best to pick yours before you leave the clubhouse; emailed cards go when you're back online.
Where are my rounds kept?
On your phone, and in your phone's iCloud or Google backup. You can also save a backup file in Settings and restore it on a new phone.
Can I track putts and fairways?
Yes, if you want to: switch it on before a round, or from the menu during one. They're pencilled small in the corners of each box, and your averages appear on the home screen.
Can I change how the card looks?
Choose a card stock (Clubhouse Green, Links Navy, Claret or Black Tie) and a handwriting in Settings, or restyle any finished card.
